Hi John -- it’s Sen. Amy Klobuchar. I want to take a moment to talk about the state of our democracy -- and why it’s never been more fragile. Let me explain:
Since 2020, Donald Trump’s big lie that the election was stolen has corroded public trust in our institutions: [[link removed]]
➡ [[link removed]] It has led to attacks on poll workers.
➡ [[link removed]] It has sparked a flurry of conspiracy theories.
But instead of denouncing Trump’s big lie, many Republican candidates have doubled down on it and still refuse to accept the results of the last election. And even more shocking, these same election-deniers are running for Secretary of State in swing states across the country.
If elected, they’d be the top officials overseeing election laws and making decisions about when, where and how folks vote.
They’d even have power over certifying the 2024 election results. [[link removed]] And since many of these candidates refused to accept the results of the 2020 election, the threat they pose to our democracy is clear.
It’s hard to believe anyone would support throwing away 246 years of democracy, but it’s happening. And next week’s election could determine the future of our democracy for years to come.
If we want to preserve our democracy, we must protect access to the ballot box. Can I count on you to donate to The Democratic Association of Secretaries of State? Please, chip in anything you can >> [[link removed]]
