Hi John.

I proudly like to call myself an infrastructure nerd.

One of my first experiences in public service was working as a White House fellow, in both the Obama and Trump Administrations. There, I specialized in infrastructure issues and worked closely with officials at the Department of Transportation. Now, I have the privilege of serving you as Vice Chair of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

We still have a lot of work to do to rebuild Kansas roads, bridges, railways, and more. But I’m so proud of the progress we’re making – and it’s because both parties worked together.

I was honored to work with Republicans and Democrats to pass the new, and historic, Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. It’s a prime example of a concrete and bipartisan solution that’s building a better future – with more jobs and lower prices.

As the law was being drafted, I had several meetings with leaders in both parties and in the administration. My priority was to make sure that Kansas was always part of the conversation.

Now the U.S. Chamber of Commerce says the law is fiscally responsible, and we’re seeing the results.

Here are just some of the ways the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is making a difference:

Rebuilding Roads, Highways, and Bridges. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is investing in crucial transportation projects across the Kansas Third District. That includes everything from renovating the I-435/State Avenue interchange in Wyandotte County, to modernizing U.S. 69 in Overland Park, to expanding K-68 in Louisburg. These projects and more are supporting 30,000 construction jobs in the KC metro region.

Securing U.S. Supply Chains. The new law has strong Made in America rules and investments to expand our ports. That’ll help strengthen and streamline backlogged supply chains, easing pressures in our economy so we can lower costs for families.

Ensuring Clean Drinking Water. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is investing in our water infrastructure too. That includes replacing lead pipes in Olathe to protect the health of our families. It’s also ensuring safer stormwater systems and better wastewater management in our communities.

Creating Clean Energy Jobs. Investing in cleaner forms of transportation will help create jobs and stop pollution that threatens the health of our families. That’s why the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is investing in new electric vehicle charging stations in Kansas and can help KCATA expand its fleet of electric buses.

By focusing on concrete and bipartisan solutions, I know Kansans can keep moving forward together. The last thing anyone needs right now is more division, extremism, and empty promises.
