The Late Show's Stephen Colbert says Republican election deniers running for Secretary of State are "like a bank robber saying 'put the money in the bag -- and also a job application. I can start Monday.'"
Colbert adds much-needed humor to the very real threat thousands of PCCC members have been donating to stave off for over a year -- what Liz Cheney warns of when she says, "We cannot give people power who have told us they will not honor elections. It’s important for the nation and for the future functioning of our constitutional republic."
Watch the Colbert clip here. Then, while there's still time to add to their Get Out The Vote operations, donate to key Secretary of State campaigns in Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Michigan, Minnesota, and Nevada. These officials could be our last line of defense against efforts to overthrow our democracy.
Liz Cheney is far from alone. Barack Obama is so concerned he has been campaigning for Secretary of State candidates facing extremist election-deniers in key 2024 battleground states.
President Biden said "MAGA Republicans do not respect the Constitution... And they’re working right now in state after state to give power to decide elections in America to partisans and cronies, empowering election deniers to undermine democracy itself."

Rep. Adam Kinzinger, the other Republican on the January 6 Committee besides Liz Cheney, is endorsing Democratic candidates for Secretary of State as "xxxxxxs to defend against a real constitutional crisis in 2024." Kinzinger adds that, "a badly placed, bad-faith Secretary of State can really throw the whole country into chaos."
Dan Rather writes: "The truth is that electing governors and Secretaries of State who wish to undermine free and fair elections could very well end democracy as we know it."
MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace echoed the point: "The survival of our republic as we know it hangs in the balance… Republican wins would make this November 8th a point of no return."
Secretary of State races typically don't get tons of national scrutiny, but election-denying candidates in several battleground states are ahead in the latest polls. In 2022, Democrats cannot afford to ignore the races that will determine who conducts and oversees the 2024 election.
