Dear John,
There is no other place on the planet like Texas. There’s just something really exceptional and extraordinary about those of us who live here.
But under Greg Abbott, we are losing the big, bold vision that used to define Texas, a Texas big enough for all of us. Big enough for our dreams and big enough to make them happen. We’ve been offered something small, mean, and uninspiring in its place.
But it doesn’t have to be this way.
I want us to rise to our full promise in this state. John, I see this campaign as an opportunity for us to come through as Texans who want to get back to doing big things — and get back to doing them together.
Nearly 10 years after the Shelby decision, it is harder to vote in the state of Texas than any other state in the union, harder to get registered, and harder to get your name on the rolls than anywhere else in America.
Greg Abbott's extreme abortion ban that begins at conception — with no exception for rape or incest — exacerbates a maternal mortality crisis in Texas that’s three times as deadly for Black women.
And after each mass shooting in Texas, Abbott has promised solutions but provided none. In fact, he’s made it easier for criminals to carry guns on our streets, and he has set the stage for more tragedies like Uvalde, Midland-Odessa, El Paso, Santa Fe, and Sutherland Springs.
As dark as these days are, I really do think it’s going to bring out the very best in us. Folks who may consider themselves Independents or Republicans or who never, ever, ever thought about voting before are not going to miss this election because their lives are riding on the outcome.
John, I just know that we will turn a page on Greg Abbott’s failures, overcome his extremism, and move Texas forward. But I need your help to finish these last three days strong. Will you make a contribution today?
