Yesterday, I got 63 fundraising emails asking me for money. Seriously. 63. I also got 16 text messages asking me for more money. And many of them were from lists that I’ve never signed up for.

They had thermometers. And fancy graphics. And TRIPLE matches. And famous signers. And midnight deadlines. And scary headlines in red, bold, size 16, underlined font.

I imagine my inbox looks a lot like your inbox right now. 

It’s not surprising -- as cringey, predictable, and dishonest as most of these messages are, they work. And trust me, as a political communicator with fundraising goals that we’ve got to hit to make the impact that we want to make, what “works” is tempting.

But it’s not who Indivisible is. You’re never going to see a triple match. Or a fake deadline. And Leah and Ezra would absolutely flip if the team ever sent you anything that was red, bold, and size 16. I want you to know that when I ask you for money, or tell you what we’re going to do with it, I’m always telling you the truth.

So today, I wanted to write you a message that you’re not going to get from any political candidate or other political organization in your inbox (and yes, I’m going to ask you to chip in, but I’m going to ask you to chip in to fund Indivisible’s work that is going to be happening long after the polls close on Tuesday).

Here it goes:

Whether or not you chip in $10, $25, $50 or more right now, Indivisible will send 2 million text messages and make tens of thousands of phone calls that we didn’t plan on to elect our expanded Give No Ground slate of candidates (if you want to join us and talk to some voters in these closing days, you can sign up here).

The 230,000 postcards that we planned to send to voters across the country have already arrived in their mailboxes.

The 50,000+ dials for our deep canvassing program -- focused on talking to voters who are pro-choice but may vote for Republicans -- have all been made (and we’re doing follow-up calls with the folks we moved to make sure they have a plan to vote).

The supplies, materials, and reimbursements for nearly 4,000 direct voter contact events that Indivisible groups held across the country this year have been sent. 

The hundreds of Indivisibles who signed up for our relational canvassing program, Neighbor2Neighbor, have knocked doors to ask people in their communities to vote. The new volunteers in the states we expanded the program to will continue to knock doors until Tuesday.

That stuff happens whether or not you chip in today.

But, I still need you to give what you can, and here’s why: Long after the polls close, and we find out the results, and the campaigns close up shop until the next time they need to ask you for money, Indivisible is going to be here. And your donation will determine a lot of what happens next. Here are just a few examples:

✅ Doubling down on a Georgia run-off or state-level election shenanigans. It’ll determine whether or not we can bring neighboring Indivisibles to knock doors if there’s a run-off in Georgia or send groups direct support if they’re needed to mobilize and take action in the case of state-level election subversion.
✅ Powering the movement when Trump announces. It’ll determine how we can make sure groups have what they need for events and group recruitment if Trump announces that he’s running for president sometime in the very-near future.
✅ Pushing Democrats to fight, holding MAGA accountable, and building pro-democracy forces in key battleground states. It’ll inform key decisions about the work that we’re able to do to push Democrats to be fighters in the final session and in 2023 (and if we win, what our program looks like to eliminate the filibuster, codify Roe, and pass democracy reform), to continue making MAGA pay for their extremism locally in red places, and to stand up new programs and help groups grow in key 2024 battlegrounds states to prevent a coup.
✅ Payback Project: Kyrsten Sinema edition. It’ll directly impact how big we can build our program to primary Kyrsten Sinema -- how many ads we can run to bring new Arizonans into groups, how many conversations we can have with voters, and more.

And those are just some examples. The work we want to do next year, in any scenario, will cost more than $15 million -- and we’ve got to start raising that money now if we want to hit the ground running on November 9.

When you chip in $10, $25, $50, or more to support Indivisible’s work, you’re supporting the organizing that has to happen -- win or lose -- long after Tuesday.

That’s the truth. And, I hope it works.
