DePerno’s stance on marriage equality is worrying given the current political climate. The legality of same-sex marriage is guaranteed in a similar way that reproductive rights were in Roe v. Wade, and we saw how little precedent matters to this conservative Supreme Court.

In stark contrast to DePerno, AG Nessel is a proven advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community. She fought hard in the fight for marriage equality herself, arguing to lift Michigan’s ban on same-sex marriage at the state level and even appealing to the Supreme Court in Obergefell v. Hodges – the case that legalized marriage equality nationwide. We can not let Republican AGs and candidates tear down the progress we’ve fought for decades to have. The stakes could not be higher.
