John -
As you’ve probably heard, a lot of media outlets are reporting that Donald Trump is eyeing November 14 to announce his 2024 presidential campaign — right after next Tuesday’s election.
Trump and his team are banking on Republican victories that they can claim credit for when he announces.
So that makes North Carolina and our race ground zero for Trump 2024. His goal to build an extreme majority in lockstep with his agenda starts with this Senate seat.
Our opponent Ted Budd is his hand-picked candidate — the first nonincumbent Senate candidate he endorsed this cycle. Donald Trump has put more into electing him than almost anyone else he’s endorsed.
So it is our job to stop them. A victory here would send a powerful message that we will not let Trump and his acolytes return to power. That’s why we need to ask:
It’s unprecedented to suggest such an announcement right now, but it’s made next Tuesday’s election that much more important.
For Trump, this is not just a Senate seat. He knows he has no path to the presidency without North Carolina, so he’s personally invested.
If we lose, he will use our race to prove he can win in 2024, and if he does, he wants to make sure there’s a full majority waiting to rubber-stamp his agenda.
He is trying to install loyal far-right Republicans elected at every level of North Carolina, and it’s up to all of us to make sure that does not happen by turning out as many voters as we can before Tuesday.
Thank you for standing with Cheri.
