Donald Trump just came to my hometown of Sioux City.
Trump came armed with the same misinformation that led to the attack on January 6th. And the same kind of divisive rhetoric that is leading to rising threats and acts of violence against elected leaders.
I don’t need to reiterate everything Trump said on that stage. You know the drill. He falsely claimed that the election was stolen from him, (the BIG LIE). And of course, he said he’s probably going to run for president in 2024.
When an elected leader lies to their supporters, it means they don’t respect them enough to tell them the truth.
Donald Trump was joined by Marjorie Taylor Greene, Sen. Chuck Grassley and Gov. Kim Reynolds on stage. What’s scary to me is that so many people running for office right here in Iowa and across the country are adopting Trump’s model of stoking fear and creating division.
This is not the leadership that Iowa nor the country needs. We need leaders who will stand up for Americans’ freedom to access the ballot box, and defend and preserve our democracy for future generations.
We need workhorses, not show horses. We need people who can bring us together and solve our collective problems.
Running for office should never be a vanity project, it’s about helping others. That’s why I’m running for Iowa State House District 1 to serve my community and improve the lives of my neighbors.
That’s what public service means to me.
