JAHANA HAYES AND RANDY WEINGARTEN FOUGHT TO KEEP OUR SCHOOLS CLOSED
Their polices set our children’s education back years

Meriden – Regarding the news that Jahana Hayes and American Federation of Teachers (AFT) President Randy Weingarten will campaign together on Sunday in Meriden, Connecticut Republican Party Chairman Ben Proto released the following statement:

“This is another slap in the face to Connecticut parents by Jahana Hayes. Randy Weingarten fought to keep schools closed, which forced children to sit in front of computers instead of in classrooms and set back our kids’ education by years.

“Jahana Hayes also believes schools should have remained closed and agrees with Weingarten that parents have no role in their child’s education. They both believe that government knows what is best for kids, so it’s no surprise that Hayes kneels at the feet of union leaders instead of standing up for parents and students.

“It is time to stop this madness and empower parents by electing leaders like George Logan who will put parents and children above outside interests. Logan will fight to protect parents’ right to make decisions about their child’s education and health care.

“Randy Weingarten and AFT represent everything that is wrong with the American education system and Jahana Hayes supports every facet of their anti-child and anti-parent agenda. On Tuesday, voters will reject Hayes’ radical policies because it’s time to put kids first and for parents to reclaim their role as the single most important stakeholder in their children’s lives.”

Background:

* Weingarten and AFT successfully lobbied ([link removed]) for language that kept schools closed
* AFT “flatly opposed ([link removed]) ” lowering social distancing guidance from 6 to 3 feet as late as late March 2021.
* AFT fully supports the teaching of critical race theory ([link removed]) in our schools.
* Jahana Hayes supports that agenda and has gone so far as to call Weingarten a “dragonslayer” ([link removed]) of educational reforms.
