Dear A.,

This week, Israelis exercised their democratic rights by voting to elect a new government.

Nearly 5 million Israelis – over 71% – cast ballots in this free and fair election, a remarkable reflection of Israel’s robust democracy.

I want to be sure you saw

a memo we sent to Capitol Hill offices summarizing the election results.

AIPAC also issued

congratulations to Benjamin Netanyahu on his election victory, and

gratitude to U.S. Ambassador to Israel Tom Nides for immediately reinforcing America’s commitment to working with the Israeli government to strengthen the U.S.-Israel relationship.

We have already seen organizations and individuals try to capitalize on this politically sensitive moment to glorify and vilify the results of the election. But we must remind everyone that the relationship between these two allies is sacrosanct and must rise above the views of any politician, political party, or ideology.

We approach our election results with the same goal in mind: to ensure the U.S.-Israel relationship continues to grow stronger.

I encourage you to vote in Tuesday's U.S. election

Vice President Kamala Harris: "Given Iran’s brutal crackdown on women and girls protesting peacefully for their rights, Iran is unfit to serve on this Commission. To the protestors: we see you and we hear you."

-

U.S. Ambassador to the U.S. Linda Thomas-Greenfield: "Let's be clear: Iran’s membership is an ugly stain on the credibility of the U.N. Commission on the Status of Women."Context: Over the last six weeks, thousands of Iranians, and Iranian women in particular, have risked their lives to demand basic democratic freedoms from the oppressive regime.
-
At least

284 people have been killed and over 14,000 injured and arrested in the regime's brutal crackdown, which has involved firing tear gas and live ammunition at peaceful protesters.

-
An Iranian girl in middle school was

beaten to death by Iranian forces over the weekend for ripping a photograph of former Iranian Supreme Leader Khomeini.
Meanwhile: On Wednesday, the United States and Albania convened an informal U.N. Security Council meeting to address the ongoing protests in Iran.

- U.N. Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield said at the meeting: "We must condemn these brutal acts of repression and violence. And, more than that, we must back up our words with action."
The bottom line: America and the world must stand with the Iranian people by increasing the pressure on the regime as it continues to brutally oppress its own people.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Director for International Affairs Mark Kasman traveled to the Sorek Desalination Plant in Israel this week. The plant provides clean water for over 1.5 million people and the water is eventually reused for agricultural purposes, helping communities meet future drinking water needs.

The mission of AIPAC is to encourage and persuade the U.S. government to enact specific policies that create a strong, enduring and mutually beneficial relationship with our ally Israel.
