Friend -
As you know, I've decided not to seek re-election this year after having the privilege to serve Vermont in the U.S. Senate for 48 years. I am writing to ask you to join me in voting for Peter Welch as our next Senator from Vermont.
As I reflect on my time in the Senate, I enjoy some of the highlights -- a cleaner Lake Champlain, Hurricane Irene relief, revitalizing downtowns, funding to combat the opioid crisis, supporting our dairy farmers, and applying the Leahy minimum to grant programs, including $2.5 billion to assist Vermont during the pandemic. There is so much we have accomplished.
I am grateful that I have had Peter as a partner in the House to support this work. Vermont will need a strong leader to continue fighting for these and other important issues in the United States Senate.
That person is Peter Welch.
Peter is the right person for the job, at the right moment, and I'm proud to support him as our next U.S. Senator from Vermont.
You can support him too. Make a donation to his campaign today to ensure that we continue to have a champion of Vermont's values in the Senate. But more importantly, please exercise your right to vote!
Peter and I have fought for many of the same causes throughout our career: an economy that works for everyone, reproductive rights, a greener planet, stronger voting rights, and more. We've made some real progress in the past few years, and I don't want to see it rolled back.
With a 50-50 Senate, we have to do everything we can to ensure we keep the majority and continue passing critical legislation.
That's why I'm asking you to make a small contribution to Peter's campaign today and to make sure you vote before or on November 8.
So much is at stake for Vermont and our nation. Your support for Peter will ensure Vermont does its part by sending a strong leader to the United States Senate.
Marcelle and I appreciate your help.
