                                                                  November 4, 2022

Greetings,

We hope you had a great start to November and enjoyed a safe and spooky Halloween!

This month, we honor Veteran and Military Family Appreciation Month and show our appreciation for our military families for their service and sacrifice. Congressman Kim continues to work in Congress to deliver expanded healthcare and support for our servicemembers and their families.

As always, we hope you find the following updates and resources helpful.

Congressman Kim and New Jersey Organizing Project Continue Relief Efforts 10 Years After Superstorm Sandy

Last Saturday, Congressman Kim joined the New Jersey Organizing Project and community members in Monmouth on the 10th anniversary of Superstorm Sandy devastating communities up and down New Jersey. On this somber anniversary, Congressman Kim recognized the resiliency of our community after such loss and spoke on his commitment to continuing relief efforts.

After helping secure millions of dollars in loan forgiveness for New Jersey, including for Ocean County towns and school districts, Congressman Kim’s Security After Sandy Act would extend federal debt forgiveness to impacted homeowners too. We will continue our work to deliver financial relief to all who need it.

Congressman Kim Recognizes National Veterans Small Business Week

Last Monday kicked off National Veterans Small Business Week. Congressman Kim is dedicated to supporting our local veteran community and delivering the resources to help them and their businesses thrive.

Last year, Congressman Kim introduced the Build Veterans Businesses Act, bipartisan legislation to give veteran-owned businesses more opportunities to help rebuild America’s road, bridges and transportation systems.  The bill passed the House in July 2021 as a part of the Invest in America Act. Congressman Kim continues to push for Senate passage.

In late October, Congressman Kim introduced the Access to Business Credit (ABC) Act which would incentivize small business lending and help expand credit availability and job opportunities for local entrepreneurs.

PACT Act Claims Support for Veterans

The recently enacted PACT Act expands benefits for veterans who may have been exposed to contaminants and toxic substances. If you are filing a claim, please be diligent against scams and choose an accredited representative to provide you with any assistance. You can find reliable information at the VA’s website on the PACT Act and VA benefits, file a disability claim online, and you can call 800-698-2411 to ask any questions about how to safely file a claim.

If you are looking for further assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out to our office as well!

Recently, we’ve been hearing from many veterans and their families about predatory companies reaching out to assist with claims assistance. Congressman Kim is proud to be a cosponsor of the Governing Unaccredited Representatives Defrauding (GUARD) VA Benefits Act that would impose criminal penalties on individuals who solicit, contract for, or receive any compensation with respect to any claim for Department of Veterans Affairs benefits. We will continue to work with the NJ VFW and other veteran service organizations to warn New Jersey veterans and their families about these risks.
