President Obama said something here in Georgia last week that we need to talk about:
“Most of the GOP and a whole bunch of these candidates are not even pretending that the rules apply to them anymore. They are just making stuff up.”
President Obama, a man I’ve worked with and respect deeply, is not pulling any punches. And John, he’s absolutely correct.
When the GOP morphed into the MAGA party, this became their whole shtick: making stuff up. It’s how they’ve managed to convince themselves to worship Donald Trump, and it’s how they’re trying to convince Americans to vote Republican.
They want you to forget that they took away your reproductive rights.
So they just make stuff up.
They want you to forget that they voted against reducing inflation, lowering prices, and holding price-gouging corporations accountable.
So they just make stuff up.
They want you to forget that they’ve jumped to the defense of rioters, looters, and insurrectionists who spent hours physically beating the U.S. Capitol Police senseless — all while claiming to support law enforcement.
So they just make stuff up.
As President Obama said here in Georgia, Republicans are “obsessed with two things: owning the libs, and Donald Trump’s approval.”
