Dear John

We have a new Prime Minister. In an article for local newspapers I congratulated Boris Johnson on his election as Leader of the Conservative Party, and commiserated with Jeremy Hunt who I was proud to support. I hope that the whole Conservative Party will unite behind our new Prime Minister.

Clearly delivering Brexit will be a key priority. I hope that we will be able to leave the EU with a deal, which is what I have consistently voted for. However, the new Government will also have a number of domestic policy priorities which I think will be popular locally. These include boosting funding for schools, something which I and my fellow West Sussex MPs have long been pressing for, tackling crime with a big increase in police numbers, and ensuring that full-fibre broadband reaches every household.

Last week I wrote to Mid Sussex District Council to raise my concerns about a planning application in Hassocks as I believe this once again undermines an emerging neighbourhood plan, contradicting the wishes of villagers. I was disappointed that the application was allowed regardless, and I am now going to take the matter up with the Planning Minister.

At Westminster I call for urgent action to end the killing of tigers and other big cats by halting the trade in their products by poachers, and I recently welcomed visually-impaired students from The Angmering School, where they were given a tour and had the opportunity to meet the former Home Secretary, David Blunkett.

Please see below a selection of recent articles, speeches and news releases from my website, nickherbert.com. I hope you will find this a useful source of information about my work representing you in Parliament.

If you have any issues you would like to raise with me, whether local or national, please do not hesitate to get in touch. I can be reached by e-mail at [email protected].

With kind regards.

Yours sincerely
