Public consultation on ?1.14bn devolution deal to begin in November

Devolution [ [link removed] ]

The Council and our partners Derbyshire County Council, Nottinghamshire County Council and Derby City Council have all given the green light to a public consultation on the ?1.14bn East Midlands devolution deal [ [link removed] ], to take place from 14 November until 9 January next year.

The deal would provide the region with a guaranteed income stream of ?38m per year over a 30-year period, and would cover around 2.2 million people, making it one of the biggest in the country. It would also mean a new regional mayor and new type of combined authority for the area, from 2024.

The consultation will allow the public, businesses, community groups and other organisations to all have their say about the deal.

My view is that this deal has the potential to make a significant difference and local people would see the real benefits from the investment with more and better jobs, housing, training and much more. It would allow us to start to address the long-term under-investment in our region. It would give us more control over our own area, where local people would have a say in the region?s priorities rather than decisions made in London.

I look forward to hearing people?s views on the deal when the consultation launches on 14 November, when more information will be published online.

Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday arrangements

Armistice Day [ [link removed] ]

I?m pleased to share the city?s plans to mark this year?s Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday.

For Armistice Day there will be a short Service of Remembrance taking place on the steps of the Council House on Friday 11 November.? The service starts at 10.50am and will incorporate the two minute silence at 11am. Members of the public are welcome to attend.

The traditional Remembrance Service will take place on Sunday 13 November at the city?s war memorial on Victoria Embankment. The ceremony will begin at 10.45am and include the two minute silence and wreath laying. The Nottinghamshire Band of The Royal Engineers (volunteers), accompanied by the Nottingham Hospitals? Choir will provide music for the service.

I will be attending the event on Sunday to pay my respects to those who have given their lives for the county and to pray for peace across the world

It?s not too late to book your flu and Covid Autumn Booster vaccinations

Covid flu jab poster [ [link removed] ]

Vaccines help give us the high levels of protection against disease, but unfortunately, the level of protection falls over time.

Even if you have already had Covid-19, the autumn booster is important to help you stay safe over the coming winter months when infection levels are expected to increase.

If you are over 50 or have a long-term health condition, then you are eligible for both the Flu and Covid Autumn Booster.

If you are pregnant, you are also eligible so that you can protect yourself and your baby.

There are plenty of sites across Nottingham to get vaccinated. You can find your nearest vaccination centre and book online at nhs.uk [ [link removed] ]. I?m going for my booster this Sunday and I would encourage all eligible people to go for theirs too.

And finally

Newstead

We finish the week with some good news to share: The City Council has received ?1.4m of Arts Council England funding for our museums service. This is the full amount of funding that we bid for, enabling us to plan with confidence for the years ahead.

This was a highly competitive process involving over 1,700 applicants, many of whom received no funding or less than requested. This is therefore a strong endorsement by Arts Council England of the City Council?s track record on delivering a high quality museums service. I would like to thank the council officers who put together such a strong funding bid which will benefit local people for the next three years.

Other local cultural organisations including the New Art Exchange, Nottingham Playhouse, Nottingham Contemporary and the National Justice Museum were also successful in their bids. Congratulations to them ? it?s good to see funding coming Nottingham?s way.
