[ [link removed] ]Welch for Vermont
Let me tell you about an old jacket.
Recently, I was reflecting on our journey to get to this moment — so I
took a few moments to take a look at this old photograph — and I noticed
something.
It was a picture of friends and family on a hike decades ago at Mount
Rainier. It was fun and peaceful — but also grueling — with the scorching
sun and steep trails.
But in this picture, I noticed I was wearing the same blue windbreaker
that I had on while looking at the photo.

This jacket has been with me through many good times. And certain things stay with me, just like
this jacket. My time as an organizer protesting racial housing
discrimination in Chicago. My early career as a public defender in White
River Junction. Memories of my dad, our town’s dentist who would throw out
bills for those who were struggling. I carry all of that with me — along
with this jacket.
This jacket has been with me forever. And everytime I wear it — whether to
hike, take a walk, or more recently, to campaign for the U.S. Senate in
Vermont — I know I’m headed on an adventure when I pull it out of my
closet.
And this campaign has certainly been an adventure — one I’ve been proud to
be on alongside all of you — but it’s hard to ignore how the world and our
environment is changing. We’re all facing some tough challenges — high
cost of living, climate change, threats to our democracy — but I know one
thing for sure: I’m ready to fight alongside you to tackle them in the
U.S. Senate. I’m ready because of all the memories and experiences I’ll
bring with me (and of course, I’ll be wearing my favorite jacket).
[ [link removed] ]We’re
just four days away from Election Day. Tackling these issues is going to
take all of us working together. So please, if you’re able, will you
contribute $3 or more to send me to the Senate to go get the job done?
