Family Policy Councils Offer Election Voter Guides
By: Jeff Johnston
The United States Elections Project reports that almost 30 million Americans have already voted, with 12.4 million voting in person and more than 17 million mailing in their ballots.
The mainstream media focuses largely on congressional and gubernatorial elections, but state and local races, school board elections and ballot measures are all very important.
For our readers who haven’t voted yet, Focus on the Family is allied with 39 state-based Family Policy Councils across the country, all dedicated to the gospel of Christ, the well-being of the family, the sanctity of life and religious freedom.
Many of these groups offer voter guides to help concerned Christians understand where candidates stand on the issues. We want to highlight some of them here that are classified as 501(c)(3) guides, giving non-partisan information for voters who haven’t yet filled out their ballots. They’re also safe for churches to promote.

Coach Joe Kennedy, Fired for His Faith, to be Reinstated as Football Coach Next Year
By: Zachary Mettler
Joe Kennedy, who was fired from his job as a high school football coach for taking a knee and praying quietly at the 50-yard line after football games, will soon be reinstated in his job.
Back in 2015, Coach Kennedy was fired for his job at Bremerton High because after football games, he would quietly kneel at midfield and offer a prayer of thanks. Sometimes he prayed on his own. Other times players asked if they could join him. Bremerton School District viewed Kennedy’s quiet prayer was an “unconstitutional” violation of the First Amendment – and so they fired him.
Kennedy, through his lawyers at First Liberty Institute, sued Bremerton for violating his right to freely exercise his religion, as guaranteed by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. On April 25, 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Kennedy’s favor.
“Joseph Kennedy lost his job as a high school football coach because he knelt at midfield after games to offer a quiet prayer of thanks,” the court said. “The Constitution and the best of our traditions counsel mutual respect and tolerance, not censorship and suppression, for religious and nonreligious views alike,” it added.
According to a stipulation agreed to by Kennedy’s attorneys and lawyers for Bremerton School District, “Kennedy is to be reinstated to his previous position as assistant coach of the Bremerton High School football team on or before March 15, 2023,” ABC News reports.

Early Voting is Up This Year – But Why?
By: Bruce Hausknecht
Midterm elections (i.e., non-presidential voting years) typically do not generate as much voter interest compared to presidential election years. But they’re also not the disappointments they once were. The midterm elections in 2018, for example, had the highest voter turnout rate since 1914.
The 2022 midterms are shaping up to be even bigger, in terms of turnout, than 2018, according to election experts. More people are voting early, or sooner, than they have in past midterm elections. Why is that, and what does it all mean for the ultimate results on November 8?
The United States Elections Project, which keeps track of such things, reports that as of November 2, more than 28 million Americans have already voted in the 46 states (plus the District of Columbia) for which information was available. Four states (Alabama, Connecticut, Mississippi and Nevada) do not offer early voting, except for absentee ballots. In the 23 states where political party affiliation is included with the early voting data, the breakdown looks like this: 44.7% Democratic, 33.3% Republican, and 22% None/Other.
Historically, Democrats and Republicans cast early votes in relatively similar percentages, but that may be changing for the 2022 midterms, according to a new Gallup poll taken October 3-20. According to Gallup, more Democrats (54%) than Republicans (32%) say they will vote early, with 38% of independents reporting they will do so.

Tim Tebow Announces Plan to Open Camp Welcoming Children with Special Needs
By: Paul Batura
It’s another touchdown for Tim Tebow.
The former NFL quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner will be opening “Rising Light Ridge” – a picturesque 3,000-acre camp in Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains – yet one more outreach of the Tim Tebow Foundation. The Florida based charity leads out with a mission, “To bring Faith, Hope and Love to those needing a brighter day in their darkest hour of need.”
According to press reports, the foundation purchased the property back in 2016 for $5.15 million. William and Jeannie Haas, co-founders of Rohm and Haas, a Philadelphia chemical company, contributed the necessary funds.
After last week’s groundbreaking ceremony, Tebow shared his vision and plans for the project.
“My heart, and the heart of my foundation, is to be able to bring faith, hope, and love to the world’s most vulnerable people,” Tebow stated. “People who are in crisis, those who have been thrown away, those who need someone to fight for them. On this piece of land — a land that we truly feel has been set apart — we have a vision to do just that.”
Tim Tebow, a former homeschooled child of Christian missionaries to the Philippines, burst onto the scene while playing football at the University of Florida. He led his team to a BCS Championship in 2008 and a near perfect season in 2009.

Ten Thousand Babies Saved From Abortion Since ‘Roe’s’ Reversal—6% Decline in Abortion
By: Nicole Hunt
A new report indicates in the two months following Roe’s reversal, at least 10,000 babies were saved from the tragedy of abortion in America. That number represents a 6% overall decline in abortions.
According to the study conducted by the #WeCount Project, funded by the Society for Family Planning, a Denver-based pro-abortion non-profit, there were 10,570 fewer abortions in the United States in July and August. The report suggests that the decline in abortions was driven by state laws protecting preborn babies.
The group collected data from “clinics, private medical offices, hospitals, and virtual-only providers.” In all, the data they gathered represented “an estimated 82% of all abortions provided in the US.”
The number was calculated by comparing the overall decline in abortions performed in states that restricted abortion to the increase of abortions performed in states that kept abortion accessible. The data showed that states that limited abortion saw a collective decline of about 22,000 abortions. In contrast, states that supported unrestricted abortion saw an increase of about 12,000 more abortions. According to the report, the states with the most significant increase in abortions were North Carolina, Kansas, Colorado, and Illinois.
States that restricted abortion and saw lives saved during those two months were Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin.
