Updates from District
Job Fair
Over 150 job seekers and 50 employers were on hand in South Holland for the Second Congressional Job Fair. Local small businesses, large employers, and state and local agencies and non-profit organizations looking to hire new workers for seasonal and long-term employment were in attendance. In the past we’ve heard great success stories from people being hired after attending one of our job fairs. If you attended and find an opportunity, please let my office know!
Housing Expo
Buying a house is the largest expense most people spend in their lifetime. With rising mortgage rates, many home buyers and sellers are uncertain how to navigate the housing market and come out on top. That’s why I hosted a Housing Expo in Hazel Crest with housing experts to discuss navigating the market, home renovations, and resources for seniors. This was the third Housing Expo held in the Second Congressional District this year!
School Buses
I'm excited to announce that Bloom Township, Herscher and Pembroke will be receiving electric school buses as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s Clean School Bus Program. These new busses will help reduce harmful emissions, reduce health risks, and ensure students and communities breathe cleaner air.
Grants Workshop
Last week I held a virtual grants workshop with special guest Emily Rhodes, EDA’s Economic Development Representative for the State of Illinois. She spoke with mayors, village managers and members of different economic alliances in the district about funding opportunities and various programs that the agency administers annually. This was a great opportunity for local leaders to ask questions and discuss their potential project ideas.
Homewood Flossmoor High School being awarded a Special Olympics Unified Champion National Banner School
For their commitment to inclusion, Homewood Flossmoor High School was named a Special Olympics Unified Champion National Banner School. The Unified program at Homewood-Flossmoor includes four competitive sports to offer people with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to participate in sports and to offer inclusive sports opportunities for all students, including Unified Soccer, Unified eSports, Unified Basketball, Unified Track & Field, and a physical education course: Unified PE. I’m proud of all the work Homewood Flossmoor High School has done to promote meaningful social inclusion so that all students may thrive.
