Dear Friend —

You're invited to join us tomorrow, Nov. 5, at our 7th annual Día de Los Muertos celebration hosted in Downtown Long Beach. As many of you know, Día de Los Muertos (or Day of the Dead in English) is a day to honor, recognize and remember our family and friends who have passed away. It is a longstanding holiday rooted in the traditions and cultures of the indigenous communities of Mexico and Latin America — and it gives us a great opportunity to celebrate the rich and diverse culture of our city.

The celebration will kick off at 10 a.m. at 3rd Street and Pine Avenue with the Día de Muertos Grand Parade.  From 12 to 10 p.m. Rainbow Lagoon Park will transform into the Arte y Ofrendas Festival featuring traditional Aztec dancers, Altares, a children’s plaza, art exhibits, face painting, an artisan Mercado, Folklorico dancers, food vendors and more.

Specific details on the parade and festival can be found here <[link removed]>.

I am proud that each year we have been able to host this celebration in downtown, it has grown bigger and stronger than the last — and this year will be no different.

I want to thank First District City Councilwoman Mary Zendejas, the event planning team, our city special events department and our amazing event sponsors <[link removed]> for making this celebration come to life. And on behalf of the entire city, we look forward to seeing you this weekend at this great celebration.

Thank you and Go Long Beach,

Mayor Robert Garcia
