On The Doors - Economy and Public Safety
Over the last few months of door knocking to prepare for this election, I’ve spoken to voters all over the community about their financial stress due to high inflation rates and increased gas prices. Some of the small businesses in our district have suffered due to the pandemic. Individuals have struggled to support themselves and their families during these difficult times. And consumer debts have risen, as many are spending more and saving less.

These issues are critically important, and I firmly believe that we need action to ensure Minnesotans who are struggling can get back on their feet again, but I also believe that voters deserve to know the truth about the political process. State legislatures do not have the power to enact policies that reduce inflation and decrease gas prices. It’s becoming increasingly apparent that some campaigns use tactics of misrepresenting their ability to solve the real issues we face. These two specific economic issues are impacted by complex global problems and will continue to rely heavily on the work of our Federal Reserve Bank and government.

I am committed to solving problems for constituents that are within my control, but I will not compromise voters’ trust by spreading misinformation about my capabilities as your State Representative. I condemn dishonesty from politicians about their power, and always urge voters to do their research before deciding who to vote for.

I also have heard voters at the door speak about public safety, an issue many Democrats like myself care deeply about. I am proud of the work I’ve done with legislators in the western suburbs who joined with mayors to address crime in our community. We as city and local leaders are working on solutions that are not based on solely winning an election. I want to be clear; Edina and Bloomington are safe communities that you should feel protected in – contrary to the fear mongering that’s being spread this election cycle. Every single leader in our community steps up on safety - we are united on this. I urge you to resist any campaign's misrepresentation of our stances on this issue.

Working for you
For the past 4 years we have had a divided legislature, and even still, we’ve been productive in getting things done for Minnesotans. We’ve increased funding for public safety and education, cut health care costs, and assisted farmers and our agriculture industry, all while navigating an unprecedented pandemic.

I remain hopeful in these last 4 days. It has been so meaningful to talk to many of you on the doors to hear about the issues you care most about – and discuss our shared values. Our community is smart; I trust that we will elect common-sense leaders who are honest with voters and work hard for the communities they represent.

I want to thank you for entrusting me in this role of representing Edina over the past 4 years at the Minnesota Capitol. My focus has always been our community first, regardless of party politics. I’ve chaired the Civility Caucus for the past two years and worked hard to bridge the divides that are ever present in our political system. Together, I believe we can improve how our government and state functions. I would be honored to have your vote in this election. I look forward to representing Edina and parts of Bloomington in the 2023 Session.

Thank you to Senator Melisa Franzen for joining us at the Edina DFL Office this past weekend! If you can to join us this weekend for our final push on the doors, please sign up for a shift or two. Sign up here:
