Online exploitation of children has become one of the fastest-growing forms of human trafficking in our digital age – and sometimes, like for Aaron, it's inflicted by someone close. The Philippines, where Aaron lives, is the current epicenter for the livestreaming of children being abused.
IJM played a pivotal role in the investigation of Aaron’s case and the rescue operation that finally freed him. “He was tiny and fragile,” remembers Sheila, an IJM worker who was there at the time of Aaron’s rescue. “He longed to be held and cared for.”
Once safely away from the perpetrator, Aaron was brought to an assessment center where we worked with our partners to evaluate his condition and give him ongoing therapy to relieve his trauma. When the time was right, Aaron was placed with loving foster parents, where he continues to receive care and support from IJM, his new family and our skilled partners.
