Each year, Americans throw out 25 billion polystyrene foam cups, commonly known as Styrofoam. The average American uses more than 300 single-use plastic shopping bags in just 12 months.

We're using too much plastic, and it's harming our environment and killing wildlife.

But in 2019, our network won major progress in the fight against plastic pollution. Thanks in part to our efforts, Maine and Maryland became the first states to ban polystyrene foam cups and containers this past spring. And four more states banned single-use plastic bags -- which can end up in the ocean from rivers and streams, and are easily mistaken for jellyfish or other food by turtles, whales and other marine wildlife.3,4

Every state has a vital role to play when it comes to eliminating plastic pollution -- and we're working to make Colorado the next state to join them.
