Drove past my local Baptist church yesterday and noted that it is in the middle of a major “rebranding” – new name (nowhere mentioning the word “Baptist”), new logo, new slogan, the whole nine-yards of church marketing. What was once the biggest church in the area has been in decline for a long time now and California’s pandemic shutdowns turned decline precipitous.
But there is more to the story.
