While the coronavirus has claimed the lives of more than 6.5 million people across the world, the effects of climate change on human health and ecological well-being will be significantly greater. According to the Institute for Economics & Peace, 1.2 billion people are estimated to be displaced by extreme weather events as early as 2050, with extreme heat, flooding, and other climate-related events further straining already-taxed healthcare systems.
As the experience with the pandemic informs policymakers’ and practitioners’ approach to global health, what lessons can be learned, and what actions can be taken now to better prepare for and mitigate future climate-related health risks? And what can be done to better understand the nexus between the environment and healthcare, even as the global healthcare industry makes up 4.4 percent of global emissions?
Join Foreign Policy, in partnership with Sanofi, at COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh, on November 8, for an insightful discussion regarding the impacts of climate change on global healthcare, and the ways in which the healthcare industry can play a proactive role, and partner with others, to reduce industry’s carbon footprint. This event will be underpinned by original research from FP Analytics, FP’s independent research division.
If you have colleagues who are traveling to COP27 and might be interested in joining FP for this event or others, consider forwarding this email to them. For more information on other events FP will be hosting at COP27, please visit this site: foreignpolicy.com/cop27
