John,
The Supreme Court is out of control. This week, they heard arguments challenging the legality of affirmative action in college admissions, and the conservative majority seems poised to ban the consideration of race in college admissions entirely — a shocking blow to our nation's effort to become a more perfect multiracial democracy.
We're appalled by this + every other effort of this Supreme Court to drag us backward. As an educator, Jamaal knows the importance of higher education – especially for people of color who have traditionally been denied many of these opportunities.
If the Court decides against affirmative action, it'd be another in the long list of reasons why this activist court needs to be stopped. We need Congress to take action.
Legacy admissions, for example, are just affirmative action for the rich. The Court is focusing on race while its largely Ivy League educated members ignore the way in which legacy admissions also hamper diversity in higher education — so Jamaal introduced the Legacy Admissions Reform Bill to put a stop to it.
The GOP and their handpicked justices on the Court will continue doing their best to make this a country of, by, and for the already wealthy and powerful. We're going to keep fighting back.
Thank you for all that you do, John. Five days to go!
Let's do this,
Bowman for Congress
