we’ve got an easy way for you to help Iranian protestors

Hi John,

As Iran's regime continues blocking the internet and killing civilians, Iranians' need to quickly and safely communicate with each other and the outside world - without repression and censorship - has never been greater.

Last month, we saw President Biden loosen restrictions on U.S.-based technology companies through General License-D2. This effectively gave major tech companies like Google, Amazon, Apple, and others, the green light to provide their services to Iranians in spite of sanctions. Unfortunately these companies are missing this opportunity to support Iranians demanding their freedom, and have still largely refused to allow Iranians to access their services.

CALL OUT BIG TECH

Iranians remain stuck with insecure domestic servers, despite U.S. companies having the full capability to provide them with VPNs and secure communication tools. This inaction from tech companies is unacceptable in an age where online communication is critical to sustaining people-powered movements.

It’s clear that we need to demand action from them, or Iranians will continue to be shut out from the outside world. That’s where you come in. If we can put enough pressure on these companies to act quickly, and get their digital tools in the hands of Iranians, we can make a significant difference.

That is why we have made it easy for you to tweet at major tech companies to demand they take full advantage of this moment to help people in Iran get secure internet access.
