From environmental justice to abortion rights to voting rights, so much is on the line in next week’s election. And, we’ve seen repeatedly how the courts impact our rights and the laws we live by.

In Michigan, Rep. Kyra Harris Bolden is running for a seat on the Michigan Supreme Court.

Right now, we have a 4 to 3 majority on the Michigan Supreme Court, and two incumbent justices are up for re-election. Kyra is challenging one of the most conservative and extreme members of the Court.

Kyra’s opponent recently wrote an opinion that said LGBTQ+ people aren’t protected under Michigan civil rights law. He even tried to prevent Michiganders from being able to vote on the Reproductive Freedom for All ballot proposal due to “spacing issues” on the signature form.

If elected, Kyra would be the first Black woman to serve on the Michigan Supreme Court.
