Hey there, John, it’s me again. You might have seen another email from me these past few weeks letting you know how you can cut through the noise this election season and make a real, measurable impact on hundreds of voters.
I’m reaching out again because we’re in the home stretch to Election Day, and our team of Common Cause staff and volunteers are working around the clock to secure free and fair elections for all. However, we need your help if we’re going to finish the job – which means placing the record-breaking number of volunteers that have signed up to protect the vote this year.
I can imagine how many requests you’re getting from candidates up for election – not to mention the dozens of PACs and front groups that seem to spring up like weeds. Requests featuring triple matches, or selling you a false bill of goods to wring one last dollar out of you.
And of course, there’s no real way to know where your money goes – maybe a TV ad, maybe a billboard, or maybe just into some consultant’s pocket.
Now, I can’t triple your donation, but what I can do is assure you that with Common Cause, you can make a real impact on real people.
So, let me tell you a little about the work our Election Protection volunteers are doing, and the immediate impact you can have, John.
It’s no secret that disinformation-driven waves of anti-voter laws have added new confusion and stress for far too many voters. This year we’ve seen states like Texas and Georgia enact severe voter suppression laws, while other states like Delaware and Wisconsin have been forced to limit vote-by-mail at the last minute.
That creates a critical gap for our volunteers to fill. Our Election Protection volunteers are trained in each states’ unique voting rules – including all 50 states plus D.C. They are experts equipped to help voters navigate ever changing rules surrounding IDs and voting methods to ensure that every vote gets counted.
In just a single shift, an Election Protection volunteer will help dozens of voters as they navigate voter intimidation, election disinformation, or intentionally confusing laws. And by doing so, they’re making a major difference to ensure that the millions of Americans who are newly registered to vote this year become repeat voters for life.
And our nonpartisan volunteers will remain hard at work long after next Tuesday. Once they’ve helped voters cast their ballots, they move on to the next phase of their work: monitoring the vote count, reviewing what worked and what didn’t, and using that to advocate for better changes in 2024.
Our volunteers are crucial in stopping attacks on our right to vote. But training and placing these volunteers is resource intensive. It costs $50 to train and place a single volunteer, who then is able to help hundreds. I know how important this work is, but we’re running out of the resources we need to keep it up, John.
I’m writing to ask if you can chip in on this crucial effort to protect the vote. Your donation will have a real, measurable impact this Election Day and after. Are you with us?
Thank you for securing a free and fair election,
Sylvia Albert, Director of Voting and Elections
