Global Citizen, Throughout my life, I’ve had a front row seat to the climate crisis. I’ve watched my family’s farm get destroyed by devastating floods. I’ve been forced to flee from catastrophic storms, and I’ve seen entire communities ravaged by drought. In my country of Uganda, climate change has become an inescapable reality. Sadly, we’re not alone. All throughout the Global South, climate disasters have become more frequent and severe. The communities who’ve contributed the least to climate change are now on the front lines of its impacts. This is what climate injustice looks like, and it needs to end. In recent years, countries of the Global South have called on the governments most responsible for climate change to compensate communities ravaged by its effects. But rich countries are refusing to listen. We can’t let this continue. No family should be left alone to suffer the injustice of losing their home to a crisis they did nothing to cause.
