Dear A.,
The people of Israel have spoken. More than 71 percent of Israelis participated in their national election yesterday, and a new constellation of parties will soon take power in Israel.
As the headlines and pundits jump to conclusions, we’d be remiss not to acknowledge how remarkable it is that for the fifth time in 43 months, the Israeli people exercised their commitment to free and fair elections. For a nation-state only 75 years young, it is already one of the oldest democracies in the world. That fact cannot be taken for granted.
While the makeup of the next Israeli government is not yet known, we know it will confront an array of security challenges that require deeper cooperation with the United States, including an emboldened Iran that is now partnering with Russia.
AIPAC’s unique mission is to ensure an ever-stronger partnership between Israel and the United States. Our efforts are particularly important when there is a transition of power resulting from elections, either here or in Israel.
There are other organizations and individuals who may use these politically sensitive moments to glorify or vilify the results of an election. We must remind everyone that the relationship between these two allies is sacrosanct and must rise above the views of any politician, political party, or ideology.
Members of Congress and the Biden administration have emphasized this fundamental point:

Tom Nides : “It is too early to speculate on the exact composition of the next governing coalition until all the votes are counted. I look forward to continuing to work with the Israeli government on our shared interests and values.”
- State Department Spokesperson

Ned Price : “Israel is a strategic partner. It’s a fellow democracy…No matter the shape of the Israeli coalition and government, our relationship will be strong and enduring.”
As Israelis face growing threats to their security every day, our work – and America’s partnership – have never been more important.
I am so proud of the work we do together to keep America strong and Israel safe. Our community is uniquely at the forefront of the political and policy fight to strengthen and expand the U.S.-Israel relationship, and our shared commitment to our mission must continue to grow stronger.
What we do together is essential for the future of America and Israel, and I want to thank you for your support of AIPAC and our work.
Betsy Berns Korn
AIPAC President
