[[link removed]] Mary Young - HD50
Learn More About Mary Here [[link removed]] Hello, my name is Mary Young, and I am honored to be the State Representative of House District 50. I’ve lived in the Greeley area since 1981 recently working as a school psychologist for Centennial BOCES and before that as an educator and school psychologist for District 6 and a school psychologist for RE3 J. I see myself as a life-long public servant, not as a politician.
Help Re-Elect Mary! [[link removed]] I spent my career as an educator working in public schools, primarily working with students with behavioral health issues, developmental disabilities, and other learning problems including learning disabilities. I have been passionate about focusing on these issues while here in the State House. This work is ongoing and there are no simple fixes, but I am committed to finding real solutions for Coloradans.
My commitment to these issues isn’t just professional. My husband, Dave Young and I became co-guardians of my sister-in-law when she needed a liver transplant. She faces medical, problem solving, and mental health challenges. The path we share with her has been a blessing and has pushed our problem-solving abilities to the limits. We are blessed to have her in our lives.
I strive to fight for well-funded quality education with well-paid educators, affordable housing, accessible healthcare, employment with living wages, the health of the business community, and a healthy environment for the people in my district and the state. As someone who believes in the inclusion of all no matter their gender, race, ethnicity, disability, age, or whom they love; I believe that all Coloradans should be able to have their needs met. We will all work together to achieve a better tomorrow.

I am a... Help Elect Rhonda! [[link removed]]
Trusted Leader
Experienced Champion
Resilient Advocate
Local Community Expert
CD8 Student, Parent and School Board Member
Rhonda brings 30 years of diverse experience in management, community outreach, and customer service. Her experience in CD8 goes all the way back to being a student and graduate from Greeley West High School. Later, she would be a parent to CD8 students/graduates, as well as serving two full terms on the Board of Education for Greeley-Evans School District 6.
Rhonda's leadership is focused on care, foresight, and innovation, while keeping the many challenges and obstacles that students encounter in mind. Her priority was to stand up to those challenges and advocate for the educators, families, businesses, and the community we served.
A quality public education system is vital for the future of Colorado. Our students are our future leaders, and their success is worth investing in! There has been a lot of great work on behalf of students, families, teachers, educators and communities across Colorado. Rhonda believes there’s still more work ahead of us, and she's up for the challenge!
[[link removed]] Kathy Plomer - State Board of Ed at Large
Learn More about Kathy [[link removed]] My name is Kathy Plomer and I am running for the Colorado State Board of Education (At-Large) to make Colorado the best place in the country for our students to receive a world-class public education that prepares them for the workforce, and to be a champion for future generations of students in every corner of our state.
Help Elect Kathy! [[link removed]] These are difficult times in our democracy, but I have spent my life both professionally and as a school leader listening, bringing people together and solving problems. My family taught me early on the value of hard work, serving others, and community. My mom is a role model for me when it comes to volunteer community service.
I have worked in the public health field for 30 years in a variety of roles – I was an HIV/AIDS educator when the disease was just becoming known, I championed early detection of breast cancer as part of my work in cancer research, and I successfully fought to keep big tobacco off school grounds. My most recent job was assisting COVID impacted people with resources to address challenges like, access to food, healthcare, and housing.
My husband, Jeff, and I have three kids who are products of a Colorado public education. They went on to attend Colorado State University and the University of Denver. I know firsthand what it means to engage parents and community members. As a parent, I served as president of my local Parent Teacher Organization and on the District Accountability Committee. As a district leader, I ensured a district budget of over $450 million operated with transparency and accountability.
As a member of the Board of Directors of the Colorado Association of School Boards and President of the Adams 12 Board of Education, I brought together people of various backgrounds to ensure all children – no matter their zip code, receive an excellent education. We can make Colorado the national leader for public education. It takes all of us working together.

In Memoriam: Marguerite Salazar
[[link removed]]
On behalf of the Colorado Democratic Party we wish to express our condolences to the family of Marguerite Salazar. Despite all of Marguerite’s accomplishments, she remained humble and lead with her heart and her values. Marguerite made a lasting impact on both Colorado and New Mexico. She was an ambassador for the San Luis Valley and the often untold history of the region back to the First Americans, Spain, Mexico and the beginning of the United States of America. She and Arnold were the hospitality of the valley and shared their love of art, history, politics and great food with friends near and far. I will remember her laugh beneath an abiding sense of propriety was a wonderful sense of humor. We will miss her deeply.
We will also be adding the Marguerite Salazar Community Service Award to the Obama Awards. Please share your nominations in the form below. This award should go to someone who supports the democratic party who also lives the values of the party through ongoing community and public service that touches people’s lives in a direct way. The recipient should reflect the selfless approach to caring for other people who face hardship.
