Friend – it's always hard to tell this story.

My 14-year-old daughter Jaime was a bright girl with a beautiful future ahead of her – but her life was cut tragically short when she was brutally murdered during the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

After she was killed, Marco Rubio lied to my face and to every other Parkland family. He said he’d try to stop gun violence, but in the four years since my daughter's death, Marco Rubio has voted against every single bill that could have prevented another parent from losing a child to gun violence like I have. It makes me sick to my stomach to think about his cowardice, friend.

Now, we have an incredible opportunity to make real progress on gun violence prevention by replacing Marco Rubio with Democrat Val Demings – but with only six days until the election and Floridians already voting, polls still show this race is tied.

That's why I'm personally asking you to rush a donation before Val Demings' critical fundraising deadline at midnight tonight: She just needs one last grassroots push to defeat Marco Rubio, so will you please give $5 or whatever you can spare today?

It's not an exaggeration to call this the single most important race on Nov. 8: Political experts say that Senate control will likely come down to this race in Florida – which means that we can ONLY pass lifesaving gun violence prevention measures IF Val Demings wins and expands our Senate majority.

I'm reaching out asking you for a donation, but it's not just about a fundraising deadline: This is about the people we can save. This is our one chance to flip Florida blue, expand our Democratic Senate majority and pass lifesaving legislation to end gun violence – and the polls prove that Val Demings can win. But it's not going to be easy to overcome Marco Rubio's massive fundraising war chest after the gun lobby has given him over $3 million.

Val Demings can only win this race if she reaches her fundraising goal before her deadline at midnight tonight – so I'm reaching out personally to ask every person on this email list to give what they can and join me in the fight against gun violence.

Can I count on you to donate $5 or more to help Val Demings win in Florida and make real progress on gun violence prevention? Every dollar you give will help Val Demings defeat Marco Rubio once and for all.

I can never get my Jaime back, but helping changemakers like Val Demings – a leader who has passed life-saving gun safety legislation – gives me the purpose I've needed since her murder. Thank you for doing your part to help.
