The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has taken the first step to sound international alarm bells over the fate of the emperor penguin by listing it as a threatened species.

John,

Climate change is taking its devastating toll everywhere. According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the latest victims are the iconic emperor penguins of the Antarctic.

The tallest and heaviest penguin species is the only animal that dares to breed during the Antarctic winter. In the face of gale-force winds and freezing temperatures, the emperor penguin lays and protects a single egg.

But now, climate change is upending the environment of the Antarctic and, with it, the survival of the emperor penguin. Melting sea ice dramatically reduces the habitat they need to breed, feed, and protect themselves from predators.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has taken the first step to sound international alarm bells over the fate of the emperor penguin by listing it as a threatened species.

However, the agency has not yet proposed specific actions the federal government will take to safeguard the penguin’s habitat.

We do know emperor penguins face a bleak future unless the United States and its international partners move quickly to prevent the decline of this beautiful species.

John, SEEC members are fighting to defend all threatened wildlife from extinction. Can you donate now to help protect emperor penguins?

If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:

The tragic reality, John, is that in a few short years, heart-warming movies like ‘Happy Feet’ and ‘March of the Penguins’ could be nothing more than visual reminders for our children and grandchildren of a beautiful species now extinct.

We must have SEEC members of Congress continue working to protect emperor penguins and all threatened wildlife from extinction. Will you help?

Thanks for your support,

SEEC PAC

Thanks to your help in 2020, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 117th Congress while we undo the damage of the Trump Administration.
