Help us End the Year Strong! Happy New Year, 2020 Fellow Democrats, Brothers and Sisters, I'm sending along my wishes for a happy and prosperous 2020 for all. But, as they say, Fate helps those who help themselves, and we need to beat Trump, take the Senate, and secure a Progressive Majority in the House if we are going to tackle the serious issues facing our country. I need to ask for your help. We need to finish the year strong if we are going to keep building momentum through the March primary and take on corrupt Ken Calvert in November. Please follow this link and send in whatever you can spare, and know that it will go to funding our grassroots ground operation to turn things around in the 42nd. Thank you all for your continuing support, and please know that it is an honor to stand beside you and fight for change, justice, and prosperity for all. Yours in solidarity, Liam For anyone new to following the campaign, below is a short introduction and some contact links: My name is Liam O'Mara, and I am the Democratic Party-endorsed candidate for the 42nd Congressional District, and I would like to take a moment of your time to introduce myself and my campaign. I am a professor of history at CalState Dominguez Hills and Chapman University, where I specialize in the Middle East, Europe, and the history of ideas, and lecture on political ideologies and economics. As such, I have an acute awareness of the long-term decline of the American working class and the shrinking opportunities to access that middle-class American Dream. I have a personal tie to those issues and that dream, being the first in my family to complete a college degree. My father just retired after 50 years on the waterfront in ILWU, and in my earlier working years I was a fourth-generation longshoreman. My mother was in SEIU as a child daycare provider so I grew up in a union household, and I have maintained those values in my own working life, being currently with AFT and CFA as a faculty member. I have never forgotten my roots, and will not only fight to improve the lives of American workers, I am conscious of the need to frame progressive policies in ways that make sense to busy people! My platform for the 42nd is broadly based in the kind of kitchen-table economic issues facing more and more American families. These include: Arguments to increase wages overall, restoring the tie to productivity gains which created the middle class; Pushing through campaign finance reform, to remove big money from our political system; Pursuing a Green New Deal to get us the energy infrastructure changes needed to tackle climate change; Moving to single-payer health care, to lower the cost and improve quality in our struggling system; Making public colleges and trade schools tuition free, so that more Americans can find the training they need to compete in a 21st century economy; Addressing the decline of unions and the rising threat of automation, which will take 43% of American jobs in the coming decades. I have been endorsed by a number of organizations thus far, including the California Democratic Party, the California Young Democrats, the California Progressive Alliance, Blue America, the California Faculty Association, and all of the big Democratic clubs in my region. I would be honored to include you as a supporter, and to have your help in taking my message directly to the voters of the 42nd. I will include a number of useful links below, and hope that you will check us out and consider making a donation.
