Friend,
This month marks one year since the first sanctioned overdose prevention centers in the country opened in New York City. So far staff have reversed more than 550 overdoses and connected people to other vital services.
Join our virtual event about this milestone next Wednesday, November 9 from 4:30-6pm ET. Register to attend Reflections from OnPoint NYC: Lessons Learned from the U.S.’s First Sanctioned Overdose Prevention Centers.
The event will feature Sam Rivera, Executive Director of OnPoint NYC. He will talk about operating the nation’s first two overdose prevention centers (OPCs) and offering a wide range of other services.
OnPoint NYC is the largest harm reduction service provider on the east coast. It offers safer drug use and overdose training to those who need it most. They also distribute and clean up more syringes and other paraphernalia than any other provider.
In just a year, their OPCs have shown success. They have saved hundreds of lives, diverted public drug use by giving people a space to safely use inside, and connected participants to other health services.
We are hosting this free event with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Center for Drug Use and HIV/HCV Research (CDUHR), and NYU School of Global Public Health. It will have ASL interpretation and live captioning.
I hope you can join our conversation next week.
Sincerely,
Toni Smith-Thompson
