Immersive Education for Social Work Students

Social workers have the unique opportunity to work with individuals regularly, through day-to-day interactions or after-school settings. If given the correct prevention training, they are able to enact and advocate for prevention programs. However, most social work students were never provided with the foundation they need to be confident in their approach to drug use prevention conversations and programming.

Ball State Center for Substance Use recognized the need for an immersive program to train evidence-based prevention. The program emphasizes the need for hands-on participation and relationship building. Through completion of this program, and passing the Certified Prevention Specialist exam, individuals gain a well-rounded understanding and hands-on experience, which creates confidence to incorporate their knowledge into action.
