John,
Whenever a client is exonerated, there’s a huge moment of relief and celebration. But what often follows is a sense of anxiety.
Many of the people we work with have spent decades behind bars for something they didn’t do. And having to start over after all those years of wrongful imprisonment is incredibly difficult. Imagine if you had to find a job or a place to live with very little money and few resources after decades in prison. It’s not easy.
That’s why we created the Exoneree Fund. It’s designed specifically to support people as they re-adjust and rebuild their lives after wrongful incarceration by covering the costs of necessities like housing, health care, and more so they don’t have to worry about the basics while they focus on exploring their newfound freedom.
Today is the LAST DAY of our campaign to replenish the fund and ensure we can support as many exonerees as possible, and we’d love to count you as a donor. Please, chip in to the Innocence Project’s Exoneree Fund today.
Our work doesn’t stop when someone gets released. It’s on all of us to make sure exonerees have the resources they need to thrive in freedom.
Thank you so much for your support,
— The Innocence Project Team
