I know you’re used to me talking about creating jobs and supporting manufacturing, but today I want to talk with you about my friend and colleague, Rep. Kyra Harris Bolden, who is running for a seat on the Michigan Supreme Court.

With the fall of Roe and SCOTUS’ attacks on voting rights and environmental protections, sending these decisions back to the states, we all know that who sits on the courts matters. Kyra is a true champion of justice for all–and has a track record of work to prove it.

As a state Representative, Kyra serves on the Judiciary Committee, focusing her work on criminal justice reform. Kyra drafted and passed multiple bipartisan bills that have been signed into law, including “Medically Frail” prison reform legislation, the revision of the Wrongful Imprisonment Compensation Act, and “Address Confidentiality for Survivors of Domestic Violence” legislation. Here’s the deal: currently, we have a 4 to 3 majority on the Michigan Supreme Court, and two incumbent justices are up for re-election. Kyra is challenging one of the most conservative and extreme members of the Court.

Kyra’s opponent recently wrote an opinion that said LGBTQ people aren’t protected under Michigan civil rights law. He even tried to prevent Michiganders from being able to vote on the Reproductive Freedom for All ballot proposal due to “spacing issues” on the signature form.
