John: Throughout his 2020 campaign, Joe Biden often said that no one should be in jail for simply using or possessing marijuana.
Sending people to prison for possessing marijuana has upended too many lives, torn apart too many families, and hurt countless communities. And the criminal records that stick with these folks have imposed needless barriers to employment, housing, and educational opportunities. It's time for change – and this is one of those rare issues where the overwhelming majority of Americans agree, including Democrats, Republicans, and Independents.
That's why President Biden made good on his campaign promise earlier this month and pardoned the thousands of Americans convicted of simple marijuana possession under federal law and took the first steps to reforming these unjust laws. This decision is about listening to experts, reuniting families, and making sure everyone has access to the housing, jobs, and schooling they deserve. It's far overdue.

I agree with President Biden that we need to reform our federal marijuana laws, focus our attention on the deadly opioid epidemic, and make sure that law enforcement has the resources they need to crack down on traffickers. But there's still a long road ahead of us. And we can only see this work through and keep delivering on these promises for progress if we hold our Senate majority.
But the election is just one week away, and races are still neck and neck. Democratic incumbents like my friends Senators Cortez Masto and Warnock are in the fight of their lives – and Mitch McConnell just needs to flip one seat to take back the majority.
With the future of cannabis reform, reproductive rights, and our democracy all on the line, we can't leave anything to chance. So please, can I count on you to make a $5 donation to help defend our Senate majority so that we can defeat Mitch McConnell's extreme agenda and win American families the progress that we've promised them?

We have just one week until the election, John. Thanks for standing with me in this final stretch.
