GROWING _INTO FORMATION_ AT OUR MEMBERSHIP ASSEMBLY

Our hearts were warmed by the generative dialogue, caring for community,
and contributions of long-time and emerging leadership at our Membership
Assembly in October. More than 200 people representing 75 organizations
gathered in Ohlone Territory, Oakland, discussing the political moment, how
to advance our alliance, and contend for power.
We reviewed proposals developed by members to hone our strategy and
political unity, and shape the next phase of our organizing. Together, we
engaged in a richly democratic process that coalesced around the following:
APPROVED PROPOSALS
FARECONOMY CAMPAIGN: In addition to our role as a convening organization,
GGJ will become a collective campaigning organization and develop a divest
from harm, invest in care campaign over the next three years.
POLITICAL FORMATION SCHOOL: GGJ will develop a Political Formation School
over the next five years.
BLACK LEADERSHIP AND ORGANIZING: We affirmed our commitment to Black
liberation and strengthening Black leadership across existing GGJ program
work, and will create a committee of members, staff, and leadership to
support program integration, Black organizing, and Black organizational
engagement.
GOVERNANCE: Our Coordinating Committee will deepen relationships with
working groups and member leaders, with a subcommittee serving as our Board
of Directors.

TABLED PROPOSALS
We determined that both our UNITED FRONT and MOVE THE MONEY proposals
needed more time for discussion and will be holding follow up sessions in
the months to come.

Our appreciation goes out to all participants, supporters, and dedicated
host organizations MUJERES UNIDAS Y ACTIVAS (MUA) [10] and COMMUNITIES
UNITED FOR RESTORATIVE YOUTH JUSTICE (CURYJ) [15] for ensuring the success
of this Membership Assembly. Our collective work lays the foundation to
determine our best movement contribution in the moment ahead.
While in Oakland, we also took to the streets for a Dream Beyond Bars and
Borders action, uplifting campaigns to divest from systems of harm and
invest in healing, wellness, and community-controlled grassroots power.

BRIDGING OUR MOVEMENTS [19] — A conversation between GGJ and Formerly
Incarcerated, Convicted People and Families Movement (FICPFM) featuring
Doresy Nunn, George Galvis, Jessica Nowlan, and Lara Kiswani, moderated by
Siwatu-Salam Ra.
POWER AND STRATEGY [20] — A dialogue between the Brazilian popular
movement and U.S.-based electoral organizing sectors on contending for
governing power, combating the right, and developing political
consciousness, featuring Adam Gold, Brittany Ramos DeBarros, Carla Loop,
Leonardo Maggi, and Santra Denis, moderated by Sunyoung Yang.
The impact of this Membership Assembly will extend well into our future
years and we hope it inspires you as much as it inspired us.

Querides miembros y simpatizantes:
Se nos llenaron los corazones con el diálogo generativo, el cuidado
comunitario y las contribuciones del liderazgo de largo plazo y emergente
de nuestra Asamblea de Miembros en octubre. Más de 200 personas
representando a 75 organizaciones se juntaron en territorio Ohlone,
Oakland, a hablar sobre el momento político, cómo avanzar nuestra alianza
y cómo competir por poder.
Repasamos propuestas desarrolladas por los miembros para agudizar nuestra

PROPUESTAS APROBADAS
CAMPAÑA DE LA ECONOMÍA FARE: Además de nuestro papel como organización
convocatoria, GGJ se convertirá en una organización que hace campañas
colectivas y desarrolla una campaña de desinvertir del daño, invertir en
el cuidado durante los próximos tres años.
ESCUELA DE FORMACIÓN POLÍTICA: GGJ desarrollará una Escuela de
Formación Política durante los próximos cinco años.
LIDERAZGO Y TRABAJO ORGANIZATIVO AFRODESCENDIENTE: Afirmamos nuestro
compromiso con la liberación negra y con fortalecer el liderazgo negro en
todo el trabajo programático existente de GGJ, y creará un comité de
miembros, personal y liderazgo para apoyar la integración en programas, el
trabajo organizativo afrodescendiente y la participación organizativa
negra.
GOBERNANZA: Nuestro Comité Coordinador profundizará las relaciones con
los grupos de trabajo y miembros líderes, con un subcomité que servirá
como Junta Directiva.
