Last weekend to mobilize for housing policies on the ballot

DSA-LA has endorsed two ballot measures to protect renters and the unhoused! Measure ULA just needs a simple majority of Los Angeles voters to generate over $800 million each year for preventing homelessness and addressing our housing crisis by creating affordable housing. Measure H in Pasadena will create a rent oversight board, limit rent increases to only a few percent a year, and protect renters from eviction.

Read on to learn how you can help get these measures passed in the last six days before the election!

Prevent homelessness and create affordable housing with Measure ULA!

The United to House LA ballot measure (ULA) is in its final stretch, and needs DSA-LA members to step up and make sure it passes. The campaign is hosting GOTV canvasses this Saturday through Election Day, with a push for Saturday November 5th at 10 am, where we will kick things off with guest Mike Bonin!

ULA, if passed by a simple majority of Los Angeles City voters, would generate over $800 million each year for preventing homelessness (rental assistance, eviction defense) and addressing our housing crisis by creating affordable housing. It's backed by key housing groups and allies like LA CAN, and the tax would only impact sellers of private properties $5 million and over.

Please sign up to knock doors here, specifically to join other DSA members for the 10am Historic Filipinotown/Central canvass on Saturday November 5th. Make sure to write 'DSA-LA' as your organization affiliation.

Other events:

  • UNITED TO LAUGH: In Support of Measure ULA: Thursday, November 3 @ 8:30 pm - 11:00 pm. DSA-LA and United to House LA are excited to present UNITED TO LAUGH, a comedy show and fundraiser in support of Measure ULA!

Not sure how to vote? We got you.

As socialists in Los Angeles, we believe that it’s important to contextualize the choices on our election ballots. Who are these candidates and how did they build power? What are the dynamics of the races they’re running in? Will their priorities build socialism, or at least help Los Angeles’ working class? Read our voter guide for a detailed analysis and recommendations on how to vote.

Save the Date: November Chapter Meeting

Saturday, November 12 @ 11:00am - 2:00pm

Post-Election Day, let’s come together as a chapter to celebrate our victories, take stock of the political power landscape in LA, and talk about our plans and visions for building socialism in both electoral and non-electoral ways. If you’re new to DSA, or not a member yet, this meeting will be a great way to meet folks and find out what we’re all about.

This meeting will be outdoors and lunch will be served. Please RVSP!
