John,
As the year comes to a close I wanted to take a moment to share with you some of my favorite moments from 2019. We had a great year full of wonderful opportunities. I'm so grateful for all of your support and continued encouragement.
In the year ahead, I see a state where we live up to our potential, where we go out of our way to help one another, where we embrace the humanity of those who may not agree with us, and where we push past the cynicism and tired thinking that stands in the way of achieving the Texas promise. With the New Year on the horizon, let’s re-dedicate ourselves to this cause together!

#5) Opening Day: There is no denying the joy and sense of achievement that comes from the Opening Day of the Legislative Session, when I joined my colleagues in taking the Oath of Office on the House Floor. I want to thank everyone who joined us for the occasion, sent well wishes and words of advice, or contributed to that moment. Read more.

#4) Medicaid Fight: On Budget Night, I was proud to offer an amendment that would have expanded Medicaid. It failed on a party-line vote, but it is the closest we have ever been to passing such legislation. I will continue to champion this fight, because it’s time to bring our tax dollars back to Texas and help every Texan get the care they need! Read more.

#3) Killing S.B. 9: I was proud to have been instrumental in helping kill S.B. 9, a bad voter suppression bill that would have hindered voter registration by punishing voters for making mistakes on their voter registration forms and created new red tape for those who may need assistance while voting, including the elderly, voters with disabilities, and non-English speakers. #2) Freshman of the Year: In a robust class of talented and savvy freshmen legislators, I was honored to be chosen by my peers as House Democratic Caucus Freshman of the Year. From fighting for Medicaid expansion and voting rights to supporting economic development in our local community, I’m proud of the work we did this past session. Read more.

#1) Baby Girl Bucy: In June I got the best birthday present ever with the announcement that my wife, Molly, and I are expecting our first child! I’m so grateful for the love and support of my family, especially Molly, who has been a gracious partner in this endeavor. I can’t wait to raise our baby girl in my grandparents' house, where I grew up and have so many fond memories filled with laughter and joy. Read more.
