MIDTERM ELECTIONS

2022 Midterm Elections

The 2022 midterm general election is Tuesday, November 8. See who is

STATEMENTS

Global Leadership

On October 20, Liz Truss resigned as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom
after only 45 days in office making her the shortest serving prime minister
in U.K. history. Rishi Sunak was appointed prime minister by King Charles
III on October 25. Read President Biden's statement on Truss'

Student Loan Forgiveness

President Biden's student loan debt relief plan, which was announced in
late August, has made progress in October with the application portal being
opened for public beta testing. There have been challenges to the program,
including a lawsuit filed by several states who believe the Biden
administration overstepped its authority with the plan; however, the
lawsuit was dismissed by a federal judge on October 20. View statements

Inflation

The level of inflation in the United States continues to be a concern for

Russia and Ukraine

Fighting between Ukraine and Russia has continued into its seventh month.
The United States continued its support of Ukraine with the announcement of
a $625 million security assistance package. See President Biden's statement

on the United Nations General Assembly vote condemning Russia's attempts to

Joint Consolidation Loan Separation Act

President Biden signed the Joint Consolidation Loan Separation Act on
October 11 to allow two borrowers, who previously acquired a joint
consolidation loan for their federal student loan debt, to submit a joint
application to the Department of Education to divide their consolidated
