Hi John.

As the Vice Chair of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I’m making sure we invest in innovation and bring new jobs and industries to Kansas.

That includes supporting an emerging, and exciting, new sector in the aviation industry – Advanced Air Mobility.

This is an entirely new mode of transportation. It means using specialized vehicles to transport people and cargo between places that haven’t been served by aviation before, including in urban and rural areas. Smaller aircraft could fly across the country as soon as 2024. And experts predict that Advanced Air Mobility could eventually become a $115 billion market, creating more than 280,000 high-paying jobs in the U.S. alone.

This is an incredible economic opportunity for Kansas. That’s why I worked with Senator Moran to pass a new bipartisan law – the Advanced Air Mobility Coordination and Leadership Act – to support this groundbreaking field.

I got a firsthand look at the technology behind Advanced Air Mobility earlier this year. I tried out a simulator that replicates what will be required to make new vehicles in the industry a reality.

These piloted aircraft will be about the size of an SUV, able to hold a few passengers, and feature several small rotors so they can take off and land like a helicopter.

Imagine taking off from the middle of Olathe or Overland Park in one of these vehicles and making your way to Kansas City International Airport in 20 minutes, and all for the cost of a typical rideshare!

Our bipartisan bill establishes a pilot program to support AAM infrastructure planning. This can provide certainty to the industry and help kickstart innovation.

Senator Moran and I worked together to pass the Advanced Air Mobility Act into law. I was glad to introduce the House version of the bill in the Infrastructure Committee and to advocate for its passage.

Kansas has the country’s strongest aviation heritage. We can build these aircraft in our facilities using the knowledge and abilities of a skilled workforce.

But that’s only possible when we focus on concrete and bipartisan solutions to help promote innovation and bring those jobs to our state. And that’s exactly what we’re doing by passing this new bipartisan law.

Because anything is possible when Kansans work together.
