Dear John,
If you haven’t heard, there is an election just around the corner. And young people are showing up. Not just by voting, rallying, and making their voices heard, but also by running in the largest numbers yet.
Today MAP released the 2022 Millennials on the Rise [[link removed]] report, our deep dive into Congressional races where young people are competing as candidates. We found that 1 out of every 6 candidates nationwide is a Millennial or Gen Zer — a 57% increase compared to 2020!
It's clear young Americans are running toward what needs to be fixed, not away from it. And that gives me immense optimism about the future of our country.
Despite common misconceptions about the partisanship of rising generations, Members of Congress 45 years or younger scored as more bipartisan than their older peers for the last three Congresses in a row. This surge in young candidates running for office is an encouraging sign for Americans who want a fresh, more collaborative approach to governing.
When young people get elected to public office, they govern differently. The good news is that young people are definitely on the ballot this November.
I invite you to read our full report here [[link removed]] .
