Folks – I was proud to bring Nancy Pelosi to Novi, Michigan to visit ONE, a fuel cell battery manufacturer that will soon employ over 2,000 people in my state.

And because we passed and signed into law the Inflation Reduction Act that also included some of the biggest climate investments in the history of this world, my home state is on stronger footing to usher in electric vehicles and new technologies. None of this would have happened without the leadership of Nancy Pelosi.

I was there with her in Congress when we passed this landmark legislation and I know what it means for the innovators and job creators back home. A clearer playing field to win the future, tax credits that allow business leaders to invest. Our moon shot of the 21st century.

Some of you may remember, I flipped a seat in 2018 and held this seat in 2020, becoming the first Democrat to win a second term to the 11th district in 100 years. Novi, Michigan is the home of great schools, fantastic neighborhoods, and companies like ONE.

It's also one of the communities that we converted from voting Republican to voting Democratic. We did this by speaking the economic language of the community, like supporting manufacturing, job training, and investing in skills (we have amazing First Robotics teams in West Oakland County).

I didn’t just talk about these things as I campaigned – I acted on them as I governed. My first bill was the Building Blocks of STEM Act signed into law before the end of 2019 (my first year in Congress). I worked with manufacturers every day and helped Congress pass a trade deal to increase American production. I also helped author the Chips and Science Act, in addition to getting the infrastructure and climate bill done to take us to the next level.

I couldn’t be more excited to bring Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Michigan to show her the legislation in action, what it means to our workforce, and how we are going to continue to utilize our federal authorities to advance the industry of the future and compete with China and others. I wanted to take a minute to peel behind the curtain and show you what's taking place on the ground and why I am optimistic.

I also want to ask for your support one more time so we can continue to grow the economy in ways that we see happening in the automotive capital of the world. We will see zero emissions one day soon and it's because of legislation I helped pass into law and because innovation leaders like ONE knew they could succeed in the place I call home.
