Leaf Them Be
Happy Autumn! Is your yard covered in leaves? Don’t bag them up and send them to the landfill! They’re critical nutrients for your yard as they break down.
If you have to rake them,

The Mystery of the Missing Crabs
For the first time in history, Alaska officials have canceled the winter snow crab harvest—on the grounds that the snow crab population in Bristol Bay shrank by at least 7 billion. But what happened? Is climate change to blame?

Climate Denial
Three decades ago, the climate change denial movement was born at a conference sponsored by fossil fuel behemoth Koch Industries. Today, we all are living with the dire consequences of such a successful event and struggling against a planetary climate emergency.

And as Associate Director of Communications for Latino Media Javier Sierra writes, the success of climate denialism is forcing us all to ask ourselves the question of the century.

No More LNG in the RGV
Three global institutions—Macquarie Capital (Australia), Societe Generale (France), and Credit Suisse (Switzerland)—have supported the construction of liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV), one of the few communities on the Texas coast without fossil fuel refineries.

Protect Public Lands
Oil and gas leasing on our public lands directly undercuts President Biden's ambitious climate goals. Despite this, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has proposed lease sales covering over 250,000 acres of public lands in Wyoming, New Mexico, and Kansas.

Tell the Bureau of Land Management that more oil and gas leasing is the exact opposite of what we must do to address the climate crisis.

In Arizona, the Future of Renewable Energy Is on the Ballot
This election day, it’s a down-ballot contest that makes Arizona a swing state in the battle against climate change. Depending on what voters decide, Arizona could either become a leader in decarbonizing electricity or it could abandon those efforts entirely.

Stop the Burn
Most of us consume sugar every day, but we don't realize that there is a deadly practice behind this commonplace item. Cane sugar producers set fire to thousands of acres of sugarcane fields in and around the Everglades Agricultural Area, exposing nearby residents to toxic smoke and ashfall.

That is why we are calling on Congress to modify the Farm Bill and end this outdated, racist practice!

The Wheels on the Bus
Last week, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that they will nearly double the first round of funding for the Clean School Bus Program to nearly $1 billion, and released a list of awardees that includes school districts in every state in the nation. Originally set at $500 million, the first round of EPA funding was almost doubled to $965 billion due to an overwhelming number of applications from school districts.

Donate Your Car Before the End of the Year
Did you know that donating your old or no-longer-needed vehicle can help support the Sierra Club's work to address the climate crisis, protect our wild places, and ensure that everyone lives in safe and healthy communities? Our partners at CARS will pick up your vehicle from any location, no matter its condition, at no cost to you. They accept trucks, trailers, boats, RVs, motorcycles, and more. If we meet our year-end goal of 480 vehicles donated, we could raise $400,000 for our campaigns. Donate by December 31 to be eligible for a 2022 tax deduction.
