Dear John xxxxxx,

As you may have heard, Kroger, which owns Mariano’s, announced plans to purchase Albertsons, which owns Jewel. This could have major implications for grocery prices in our community. Kroger posted record earnings during the pandemic, including $132 billion in 2020. At the same time, Kroger decreased worker pay by 8.1%. This merger would lead to less competition, even higher grocery prices, and layoffs for employees. We must put American families first. I am proud to join Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) in calling on the FTC to block this deal.

Another day, another conflict of interest for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas revealed. Last week, we learned that Justice Thomas temporarily blocked a subpoena demanding testimony from Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) from a Georgia grand jury investigating election interference by former President Donald Trump. Today, the full court did the right thing and ruled that Senator Graham must testify. Justice Thomas should have recused himself because his wife, Ginni, encouraged Trump White House officials and state legislators to overturn Biden’s victories in swing states. Add this to the laundry list of impeachable offenses he has committed. He has no business being on the Supreme Court, and no shame. He must resign or be removed from the court.

Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to visit Uplift Community High School, a Chicago Public School located on Wilson Avenue in the Uptown neighborhood. This school has it all! Imagine getting your high school diploma and associates degree at the same time. That is a possibility at Uplift thanks to their close partnership with Truman College. Uplift’s outstanding leadership, emphasis on creativity, and state-of-the-art facilities, helps to prepare students for life after high school and beyond.

Schakowsky Speaks with CBS News About Protecting Consumers from Dangerous Products

Right now, manufacturers can decide to keep consumers in the dark about hazardous products. Because of this, children have lost their lives. It’s wrong. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission should be allowed to warn consumers about dangerous products. Section 6(b) must be repealed. My bill, the Sunshine in Product Safety Act, which I introduced with
Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), will do just that. It will repeal section 6(b), saving lives and preventing injuries.
