News from Congressman Jake Ellzey

Dear John,

Recent News

2021 went down as the worst year for inflation since 1981, and 2022 is on track to be even worse. The U.S. GDP has decreased on average by 0.6% in the second quarter of 2022, coming right off a decline of 1.6% in our first quarter. Our economy continues to shrink, meaning consumers will face continued financial burdens as we go into the holiday season. Right now, Americans are paying more for just about everything. Airline fares are up 42.9%, Energy is up 19.8%, Food is up 13%, and even candy is up 13%.

The increased cost of goods and services will cost the average American household $700 a month, which will add up to over $8,000 for an entire year. While prices increase, Americans are making less and less. We are all finding it harder to support our families. This is why I strongly support our Commitment to America plan. Come January, I will join my fellow Republicans and work towards creating an economy that is strong. Americans must function on a budget. It's time our federal government does too.

Thanks and Gratitude to our First Responders

October 28th was National First Responders Day, and I want to thank all of our exceptional first responders who serve us day in and day out. The sacrifice they make to serve and protect our communities, families, and loved ones does not go unrecognized. We celebrate all of you and everything y'all do every day throughout the year. It was a privilege to spend a day with the Grand Prairie Police Department and the Mansfield and Red Oak Fire Departments. It is inspiring to get a glimpse of their day-to-day operations and the level of service they provide to others. I encourage all of you to check into what classes, events, and programs your local police and fire departments offer. They, too, are challenged to keep up with the incredible growth we are experiencing in our cities.

Trick or Treat!

Our Corsicana District Office participated in Boo on the Block, an annual event providing safe family fun and a chance for the community to interact. We had over 2,000 trick-or-treaters coming to our door to get candy and prizes. I think only a few tricks were played on my staff by all of the little goblins, ghosts, and princesses this year!

I hope you all had a safe and fun evening of trick-or-treating!

District Update

It's been great to be back home in the district and seeing all of you these past few weeks! I'm incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to participate in community events and speak with you all. Engaging in the community is what I look forward to most when I come back home, besides spending time with my family, so I am happy to have spent Halloween in the district this year!

I want to recognize the hard-working students in our district that never cease to amaze me in all that they do. We truly have some incredible minds, athletes, and entrepreneurs. Madelyn Dodd from Dieterich Middle School in Midlothian wrote a letter to Blue Bell, for a school project, about a new flavor she had in mind. This summer, Blue Bell released her flavor Strawberry Lemonade! Dr. Fey and Midlothian ISD helped make a sit-down ice cream party possible to celebrate her accomplishment. It is delicious – be sure to try some! We also have a young author, Breck Bradshaw, a fifth grader at Shackelford Elementary, who published his first book, congrats, Breck! The ingenuity and resourcefulness of our children know no bounds. People often ask if there is hope for the future, and with leaders like Madelyn and Brek, I think it's safe to say we are in good hands!

October was Principal recognition month, and we cannot begin to thank our outstanding school leaders enough. Over the past few weeks, I had the opportunity to read to some students while dropping off books at the Red Oak Library and several elementary schools in our district. My office participates in a book program through the Library of Congress that allows me to donate books to our schools and non-profit organizations that work with students. So far, we have delivered books to 15 school districts, and my goal is to make deliveries in all the TX-06 school districts by spring.

While serving as your Congressman, I prioritize visiting new and established companies in our communities. This month I have had the opportunity to visit many of our local businesses, including RaceTrac, Sunrider, Freshpet, and a real treat, Russell Stover. Each time I visit a new facility, I am inspired by all the hard-working Americans making these businesses successful.

Texas is a place where businesses and organizations can thrive, but that is not without the selfless sacrifice of all of those involved. On October 13th, the people of Ellis County came together to watch The Heights, which serves those victims of domestic abuse, take the next step in their journey to supporting our community. I was honored to be there when they broke ground on the road needed for the building to follow.

During this season of thanks, I am thankful for all of you. I want to take this time to wish you and your loved ones a very Happy Thanksgiving. We have so much to be grateful for - let us not ever lose sight of our many blessings.

Timothy 4:4-5 - For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.
