Dear John,
As we celebrate our recent accomplishments, Wildlands Network remembers ([link removed]) Dave Foreman ([link removed]) , our co-founder and a visionary conservationist, who passed away in early September. Dave and others laid the foundation for our mission with the understanding that nature is intimately connected, and that effective conservation requires big-picture thinking. Thus, we began our quest to reconnect, restore and rewild North America. Today, his vision for continental-scale rewilding continues inspire us and many other wilderness and biodiversity protection and restoration efforts around the world. And, thanks to your support, we're making an impact for wildlife.

Governor Gavin Newsom signed the Safe Roads and Wildlife Protection Act into law recently, paving the way for more wildlife crossings and road improvements across the state.
Wildlands Network cosponsored the bill, and also helped draft the legislation. “This policy, combined with increasingly available state and federal funding, provides an amazing opportunity to address transportation impacts on California's ecosystems while making roads safer for motorists," said Mari Galloway, California Program Manager.

We released an analysis of Sonora's protected areas, emphasizing to decisionmakers that the state could lead Mexico in the global movement to protect 30% of the planet by 2030.
"Protecting 30% of this biodiverse territory is not unreasonable," said Juan Carlos Bravo, Director of Conservation Programs. "Rather, it is the only way to guarantee that all Sonorans have access to a healthy environment."

We launched a study to determine the presence and distribution of elusive species such as the Pacific marten and Canada lynx in the south San Juan Mountains. We used cat food (yes, cat food) to attract animals to our trail cameras.
By understanding the current status of both species' populations, we can better ensure their ability to move across their habitat range long-term.
